Christians in the Visual Arts (CIVA) invites visual artists of all mediums to submit artwork for its 2019 Biennial Conference Juried Exhibition on the campus of Bethel University (St. Paul, MN) June 12–15, 2019. As we enter the third decade of the twenty-first century, the art world has never seen more diversity, wealth, interconnection, and popular appreciation. Yet, we live in an age of high anxiety, disruption, and divisiveness, while many voices continue to remain silenced. With this in mind, the exhibition’s theme “Are We There Yet,” is a call for artists to consider the unfinished state of our creative work, to acknowledge the near constant state of flux in which their art dwells and is interpreted, and to engage in a conversation about what our world ought to be. As an organization working at the intersection of art + faith, we seek pieces that address the question “Are We There Yet” in situ, specifically as it relates to their studio practice, to society as a whole, or to the sanctuary—or all of the above.

  • Accepted artists will be notified on or before March 1st, 2019 and will receive a coupon code for discounted admission to the conference. All accepted work must be received at Bethel University by June 1st, 2019 framed or ready to hang.

  • Three-dimensional or multimedia work must include clear instructions on how to install and should not weight more than 50lbs.

    • Size and fragility restrictions: Due to the limitations of the gallery space, works larger than 84" h or 72" w, or particularly fragile works, will not be considered.

  • Artists are responsible for shipping their work to and from Bethel and should include a prepaid return shipping label with their shipment.

  • One selected artwork will be given the Juror’s Choice Award designation and a $500 cash prize.
